The home stay program will allow you to experience living with a Costa Rican family, an excellent way to immerse yourself in the Costa Rican culture! These are middle class family homes which offer students a nice, clean living room/dining room area, laundry, kitchen, bathroom with shower, toilet and lavatory, and a private room with bed, closet area and small desk.
Host families are carefully selected taking into consideration their hospitality, clean housing and that they are located in safe neighborhoods. There are many different types of families - with or without children, married couples, single parents, young couples or older parents, widows, etc. Most families are a short 15 to 30 minute bus ride from the school, and the bus stop is only 3 blocks away from the school. On the first day, your hostess will accompany you to the school so you can learn how to get around.
The Homestay Coordinator personally meets with each family and also asks students to fill out a questionnaire with their comments, in order to evaluate them on a regular basis.
Students are provided with a private room, breakfast and dinner plus laundry service. The homestay program can also accommodate couples, friends or families in the same household. Homestay arrangements are made taking into consideration your preferences (which are indicated when filling out our online application). A brief description of the host family assigned is emailed to the student prior to their arrival.
If you are not interested in staying with a host family there are several hotels, apartments, hostels and bed & breakfasts close to our school - within walking distance! Conveniently located on the east side, small hotels in this area offer students a variety of amenities (one has a small swimming pool!), good restaurants, lovely, comfortable rooms in nice residential areas. Hostels have shared rooms at good rates and offer students cable TV, Internet access, breakfast, etc. Apartments are available at various rates depending on the length of stay and number of students. Once enrolled, we can email you a list of accommodations close to the school upon request, so you can check websites for more information and reserve. Most of these options apply special student rates.
