Useful Facts
Facts: The Amazon Jungle is the world's largest remaining tropical rainforest. More life hums, buzzes, chatters and bubbles here than anywhere else on the planet. Here you can find a monkey small enough to sit on your fingertip, an eight pound toad, a spider that eats birds, and the world's largest snake, the 30-foot anaconda. From the Amazon come some of our favorite foods: avocado, black pepper, Brazil nuts, cayenne pepper, cashews, chocolate (cacao), cinnamon, eggplant, figs, ginger, sugarcane, vanilla, and yams. The rainforest also produces many medicines, such as quinine for malaria; curare for multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease; as well as many industrial products, including latex, resins, timber, oil, and other minerals.
Ecuador Time zone: ECT (UTC-5)
Ecuador Currency: US dollars
Ecuador Voltage: 110/120V, same as in America and different from the voltage in Europe. 2 prong electrical inputs are most common, so bring an adapter for appliances using 3 prong electrical inputs.
Climate and packing tips: Temperatures are tropical and humid all year round, around 77ºF/25ºC. Rain can be expected at any time of the year, so be prepared! Pack accordingly for warm temperatures, and bring trusty raingear. Do not forget packing mosquito repellent, as mosquitoes and sand flies are present 24/7!
Health: No vaccinations are required, as the lodge is not very deep into the Amazon Jungle. However, check with your phisician and make sure your immunizations are up to date. Do not forget sun block for the unforgiving equatorial sun!
Safety Tips: Do not bring anything irreplaceable in the first place. There is not much money to spend on, except for crafts, so no need to carry large amounts of cash. Avoid going on hikes or trekking in the jungle unaccompanied.
